In the early days of the pandemic we struggled with the question of whether or not to cover our faces. Some officials insisted we should; others said the opposite.  By early April public health experts more or less reached a consensus: wearing masks helps limit the spread of coronavirus.  But they also agreed that you should not get too confident wearing a homemade mask.  Basic face coverings do little to stop the virus from coming in; they are mostly useful for helping to keep infected people from breathing the virus out.  N95 masks do a better job of intercepting incoming viruses.  But once they do, the masks themselves can become infected. That is why, back in normal times, they were supposed to be used just once.

Also, with the sudden major need for large numbers of masks, we have experienced an extremely high percentage of disposable masks coming from China.  Our laboratory took ten different large exporters of masks from China and tested them. One was clean, nine had bacteria and two had mold in them.

We know that normal times are long gone. In the Covid-19 era we need better facial defenses more than ever.  A person cannot depend on a normal mask stopping the virus from penetrating and themselves at risk.  Vidafirst has the next generation of face protection. And here’s the science in abbreviated form.

This science combines Magnesium Hydroxide Mg(OH)2 and technology using Copper, and Benzalkonium chloride.  Copper kills bacteria and inactivates viruses, rendering them harmless. The Copper and Magnesium Hydroxide Mg(OH)2 combination inactivates coronavirus and almost all other respiratory viruses on contact.  Benzalkonium chloride is also an active ingredient supplying synergist antibacterial protection.  These are enormously powerful combinations for many applications.  The original patent is on Magnesium Hydroxide Mg(OH)2; and the new patents pending, recently filed, deal with the combinations.

 

The Magnesium Hydroxide Mg(OH)2 wafers can be quickly and easily modified by substitution for future problems (pathogens/viruses).  Vidafirst’s manufacturing partner has patents covering wafers infused with 76 different elements, thus 76×76 wafers variants (5,776) can be created. By substituting some Magnesium atoms with other metals (Copper), new wafers with new activities and potencies can be engineered. These variants may be deployed to destroy new or evolving pathogens including Covid -19.

 

Copper has been utilized for health purposes since ancient times. Research shows how copper and its alloys exhibit these impressive properties and the corresponding chemical and mechanical processes involved. The key activity involves the release of copper ions (electrically charged particles) when microbes, transferred by touching, sneezing or vomiting, land on the copper surface. The ions prevent cell respiration, punch holes in the bacterial cell membrane or disrupt the viral envelope or coat and destroy the DNA and RNA inside. Studies worldwide have shown that, with routine cleaning, when copper alloy is used on regularly touched surfaces in busy wards and intensive care units, there is up to a 90% reduction in the numbers of live bacteria on their surfaces. This includes bed rails, chair arms, call buttons, over-bed tables, IV poles, taps and door handles.

 

Benzalkonium chloride is thought to work by cation (positive ion) donation or surfactant activity, either of which have the effect of disrupting the bacterial membrane or viral envelope. The technology in the sanitizer’s formulation includes a copper(ii) chloride dihydrate (CuCl2.2H2O) and magnesium hydroxide (MgOH) wafer, which recharges the BAK through cation donation, or supplements the cation donation.

 

Our technology kills from the outside. Unlike other chemical entities, our wafers are not ingested by bacteria, fungi, or virus. Many technologies act inside the target cell so must be taken up to be effective. Unfortunately, many of those particles can be taken up by human cells too and cause damage within human cells. Magnesium Hydroxide wafers are not taken up by cells.

 

Most wafers are potent at large size. Many other particles are most effective at exceedingly small sizes (e.g. 10 nm), sizes that allow them to be taken up by cells. They lose activity when larger. By contrast our technology is designed to be outside the size range for human cell ingestion and act from the outside of cells.

 

The Company’s technology engages in multiple rounds of pathogen killing. Most antimicrobial agents are consumed in their course of action; they destroy or inactivate a target molecule within the pathogen and are broken down or remain attached to it. By contrast, our wafers ‘kill and move on’, destroying a target organism then moving on to the next target organism. After destroying a culture of pathogenic bacteria, our wafers  can be challenged, days later, with a second dose of pathogens and will destroy those pathogens too without the need for added platelets.

 

  1. Clinical Studies

 

Clinical results obtained by MicroConsult, Inc. demonstrated impressive kill rates against a variety of virulent pathogens, namely 5.38 to 5.93 log reductions of inoculated E. Coli, Burkholderia cepacia, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enterica, enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes, Listeria monocytogenes, Campylobacter jejuni, and Clostridium difficile (“C.diff.”) at 60 seconds after application in the laboratory. Based on an ASTM E2752-10 protocol, the Company’s product was found to have persistent antimicrobial activity measured against Staphylococcus aureus at four hours.

The Company has received scientific lab proof that our sanitizers kill COVID-19. The study “Evaluation of one test product for its viricidal properties for human coronavirus 229e (a surrogate for sars-cov-2) of a hand sanitizer using the ASTM e1052 method” was performed.  The Hand Sanitizer was proven to be highly effective in inactivating Human Coronavirus Strain 229E (ATCC- #VR-740) in vitro.   

The Company also performed a study to measure the residual antibacterial activity of the Glove using the standard method prescribed in the American Society for Testing and Materials protocol E2752-10.9. This study was to demonstrate the persistent antibacterial efficacy of a hand sanitizer, on human skin at 1, 2, and 4 hours after application. In summary the product produced a marked reduction in colony-forming units at each of the time points tested: one hour, two hours, and three hours of 3.75-4.16-log10 reductions.

Benzalkonium Chloride has also been studied for virucidal activity against influenza, Newcastle disease, and avian infectious bronchitis viruses.

Importantly, each of the Company’s key technology components has been found to be safe through extensive testing which includes: oral systemic toxicity, dermal toxicity, skin sensitization, ocular irritation, genotoxicity, phototoxicity, and in some cases, carcinogenicity. In general, the margin of safety below the calculated NOAEL is from 50-fold (for BAK) to 10,000-fold (for polyethylene glycol).

The copper/magnesium hydroxide wafers, assuming total absorption, would not make a measurable difference in plasma levels. Penetration of copper ions through human cadaver skin was measured in vitro using Franz chamber. Multiple skin donors were used. The Kp calculated was between 10-5 and 10-6 cm/hr. Copper ions poorly penetrate intact human skin. The margin of safety given this level of absorption, the total exposure by concentration and anticipated maximal surface area, is 1,000-fold relative to known systemic toxicity. Both copper and magnesium are essential minerals.
